 Don Mathern, owner of Insurance Specialists, began his insurance career in Montana in 1969. He started out with American Mutual Insurance Company. He went to work for American Fidelity Insurance Company and was the company representative in Montana, Idaho and Oregon. Don then transferred to Boise, Idaho to work for American Fidelity and then joined the Marsh McLennan agency.
In 1989 he started his own company, Insurance Specialists as an independent agent. His agency expanded with a satellite office in Hailey, Idaho in 1996.
Don represents both Blue Cross and Regence Blue Shield of Idaho and was the District Three Agent of the Year with Regence Blue Shield of Idaho in 2003 for top sales achievement. He brokers for other insurance companies, such as Primary Health, Altius, Pacific Source and Assurant Health. He represents various companies in the Long Term Care, Dental, and Life insurance industry.
Don is familiar with the trends in the market and the legislative issues that effect the insurance industry. He is the two times past President of the Idaho Association of Health Underwriters. He is a David Isern award recipient, for outstanding service in the health insurance industry in the state of Idaho. He is an award recipient for the Leading Producer Round Table for the National Association of Health Underwriters.
Don has resided in Boise, Idaho since 1985. He is an avid white water rafter, and volunteers one night a week at the Maximum Security Prison. He and his wife of 40 years, Brooks, have three children and 2 grandchildren. Don is a 1969 graduate of Montana State University.
